This week, May 2-8, 2022, is Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Mental Health Week, which is dedicated to raising awareness around the topic of mental wellness.
This year’s theme is empathy – the ability to share in someone else’s feelings or relate to their experiences in an attempt to try and better understand what it might be like in their situation. The campaign tagline for this year is #GetReal. Before you weigh in, tune in. This speaks to one of the easiest and most effective ways we can be there for one another in times of struggle – listening. We don’t always need someone to swoop in and try to fix our problems, sometimes just having someone listen to us and try to understand our struggles can be very helpful.
Check out some of the great articles featured on the CMHA Mental Health Week website:
At Collective Results, we try to embed empathy in all the work we do – not only with our clients but also how we work as a team. As part of our own strategic planning within our pillar focused on ‘People and Culture’, we have begun to have conversations on what it means to create a ‘culture of caring’ in the workplace. One resource that we have found helpful to guide our discussion and provide actions to help us build our collective (*pun intended…) culture of caring is from the Employee Wellness Solutions Network called The Importance of Creating a Culture of Caring.
Collective Results is also excited to have some fun in creating our culture of caring and the importance of giving back to our community. We have signed up as a team to participate in the annual Run for Women event in May in support of mental health programs and services at CMHA Waterloo-Wellington. We are looking forward to spending time together, enjoying the outdoors and being active as a team!
What are some ways you have rooted empathy into your work or workplace? What does a culture of caring look like for you? We would love to hear your stories, let us know!
