In the ever-evolving landscape of health and social services, success lies not just in the accumulation of knowledge but in its mobilization – using knowledge to guide decision making and action.
There are so many great resources available to support knowledge mobilization (KMb) now-a-days. I had the chance to explore some of these when I completed the certificate program in Knowledge Mobilization from the University of Guelph, and I have discovered others in my ongoing knowledge mobilization practice.
In this blog, I’ll share a few of my favourite KMb resources.
1. SickKids Knowledge Mobilization Resources
The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) has a treasure trove of resources on Knowledge Mobilization. They have a KT companion tool that can help you develop a KT plan, online learning modules, case studies, a plain language checklist, and even an online game to enhance your knowledge mobilization practice.
2. Health Evidence
In the sea of information, Health Evidence stands tall as a lighthouse that can guide your organization towards evidence-informed decision-making. Navigate through their extensive database of systematic reviews, evidence summaries, and decision support tools.
3. National Collaborating Centre on Methods and Tools
The NCCMT provides a toolbox filled with practical tools for knowledge translation. From evidence-informed decision-making needs assessment tools, to online learning modules, to methods and tools for organizational change, NCCMT ensures your organization is armed with the tools needed to turn knowledge into action.
There are also some really helpful tools (articles, reports) that can inspire creative knowledge mobilization for different audiences. I like these two, which both contain lists of knowledge mobilization strategies to use for different purposes.
4. Knowledge Translation Strategies for Different Target Audiences
This resource from Alberta Health Services provides a list of knowledge translation strategies for different target audiences, including: decision-makers, healthcare practitioners, patients and family members, the public, and researchers. The strategies are grouped by effectiveness, to help KMb practitioners choose strategies that are most effective for their target audience.
5. Menu of Knowledge Mobilization Outputs, Strategies & Activities by Dr. Travis Sztainert
In this LinkedIn article, Dr. Sztainert provides a comprehensive list of different knowledge mobilization strategies to use for different purposes, from awareness raising, to generating/obtaining feedback, to creating behaviour/policy change. He includes paper based, technology-based, and arts based strategies in his list.
There are also so many great tools now that make the development of effective and visually appealing knowledge mobilziation products easy. We love Canva for the development of beautiful reports, presentations, infographics, and even videos!
