Hey there! How are you feeling as we are about to head into another long weekend of summer? Is it just me, or does everything feel a little different (in a good way) at this time of year? Lots of “out of office” replies are pinging back, and chances are, you’re enjoying some well-deserved time off too. It’s like the whole world collectively exhales, and people seem a little happier, a little more relaxed, and definitely getting a healthy dose of Vitamin D!
Sometimes, this slightly slower pace at work can feel a bit… unsettling, right? Especially after a very busy period, it can feel hard to slow down after periods of intense work. If you are feeling this way, I encourage you to embrace the chance to disconnect and let your mind wander. You may find that this time away has far reaching benefits that may not be immediately obvious.
Your Best Ideas Bloom Outside the Office
Have you ever noticed that sometimes your most brilliant ideas pop into your head when you’re not actually trying to work on them? I’m talking about those “aha!” moments that hit you while you’re strolling through a park, splashing in the lake, or just relaxing on your patio. I find that when we step away from our screens and cubicles, something magical happens. Our brains make connections and spark ideas we might never have stumbled upon if we were just working away day after day. I often come back from holidays with fresh perspectives and new insights that simply wouldn’t have hatched in my everyday work.
Embrace the Disconnect!
So, here’s to the incredible power of truly disconnecting and savoring every moment of summer! You might just find, like I do, that your best thinking happens when you step away. Especially if you’re in a creative field—think consulting, entrepreneurship, or leadership—our success hinges on critical thinking, deep dives, and making those unexpected connections.
What’s on your summer bucket list? I’m truly hoping you’ve carved out some precious space to step away from the office, let your mind roam free, and soak in all the incredible benefits this season has to offer! I’m heading out to the East Coast of Canada in a few days with our family and I can’t wait!
